Maryborough House
Maryborough, Victoria

Residential

Located in Victoria’s goldfields, Maryborough House is a rural home on Palmerston St. The renovation of an original 1930s red brick country homestead now sits on a half-acre site, following the addition of a contemporary extension to the rear of the property.

The existing rooms in the front of the house have been reconfigured, with minor changes made to the exterior of this heritage-listed structure. These include the addition of two key architectural elements internally, via a glass link, and externally, by an under-cover metal breezeway structure wrapped in greenery.

The new building features a living, dining and kitchen space, complemented by a powder room, study and storeroom. The pitched ‘cathedral’ roofline spans across the residence to create a covered open living area that rests lightly on the garage structure, which houses a laundry and mudroom. The external landscape maintains a rugged feel to offset the contrasts of a defined, manicured lawn, which serves as a backdrop to the outdoor fire with its prominent chimney stack, and concrete pool.
